Jim started jiu jitsu after watching Royce Gracie compete in the first UFC. After attending a seminar with Royce Gracie in Thornwood, NY he was hooked. He trained with Royce Gracie for several years attaining his blue belt from Royce. Received his purple belt from Relson Gracie. Received brown belt from Relson Gracie’s first American Black belt Steve Maxwell. Was promoted to Black belt by Saulo Riberio.

In his early training the only “official” school he could find in 1995 was in Philadelphia run by Steve and DC Maxwell. For 15 years he drove every Saturday to Philadelphia (135 miles one way) to train with the team in Philly all day and then come home to train a handful of students.

He has  trained with Royce, Relson, Royler, Rolker and Rodrigo Gracie. I have trained with Master Steve Maxwell ( Steve was my principle jiu jitsu instructor for 15 years) , DC Maxwell, Regis Lebre, Rodrigo Pagani, and “Little” Tony Pacenski.
